Cummins ISL is a highly flexible power choice with a low weight, compact size and fuel efficient 8.9 litre configuration. The ISL has been designed with heavy duty structural strength, and incorporates design features which are normally associated with larger Cummins engines. An enhanced camshaft and roller cam followers, a viscous damper and high capacity lube system enable Cummins to maintain high durability and reliability with a high power to weight ratio. Weighing in at just over 800kg, the ISL offers significant benefits for payload critical and high bulk volume operations. With unrivalled levels of torque for an engine of this size, the ISL provides the flexible power solution for premium rigids, lightweight tractor units, higher powered buses and coaches and specialist vehicle applications.

- Premium Engineering – cylinder block with integrated fluid lines, high strength tensile steel forged crankshaft, high durability pistons and special surface finish mid-stop cylinder liners support the overhaul durability goal of 850,000 km.
- Electronic Integration and protection – industry standard datalink accepts inputs from all powertrain components including electronic transmissions, ABS brakes and ASR anti-slip. Creates a seamless flow of information shared along a high speed network.
- Electronic Protection – sensors throughout the engine continually send data back to the ECM for self diagnosis and protection. Rapid diagnostics and data downloading are available, helping to ensure maximum uptime for vehicles.
- Electronic Control Module (ECM) – has a higher processing capacity than the previous model. It maintains an optimum balance between load demands, fuel-efficiency and emissions control. It is designed to be isolated from detrimental thermal and vibration loading for extreme reliability and durability. • High Pressure Common Rail system – Cummins XPI system works at higher pressure and provides more precise control of the combustion process. Capable of generating up to 1800 bar injection pressures for refined and rapid power delivery, reduced noise, and improved cold start.
- Closed crankcase ventilation (CCV) – new system mounted to the engine valve cover required to re-cycle blow-by gases now counted in the engine emissions. Positioned to the rear for cab over truck designs.
- Rear Engine Power Take-Off (REPTO) with a drive capability of 690Nm is available – it is suitable for applications such as cement mixers.
- Variable Geometry Turbocharger – delivers performance and driveability improvements across the whole revs range. It acts as an exhaust brake, allowing manufacturers to simply their installation.
- Latest Engine Filtration – a new nanotechnology based fuel filter media offers unmatched protection for the engine’s fuel system, removing up to 98.7% of all particles as small as 4 microns. The filter’s replaceable service element has less environmental impact than its predecessor, and unique patented no-filter, no-run design prevents the engine from running without a media element installed, eliminating the risk of debris entering the engine.
- New aftertreatment system – a switch back configuration for compact installations, packaged ready for manufacturers to fit direct to their chassis. A patented SCR design uses Copper Zeolite technology for very high conversion efficiency, even at low temperatures.
